Building demand engines for
B2B technology companies.

Most B2B tech companies with great products have one thing in common: all their revenue comes from referrals. Pipeline Scientists is a go-to-market consultancy that helps B2B technology companies build demand engines beyond their network.

Root cause: positioning was never resolved.

Most companies in this situation describe their product differently on every page, in every deck, and in every sales call. This is not a messaging problem. It is an unresolved strategic decision about what the product is, who it is for, and what it replaces.

Because positioning was never resolved, marketing investment cannot be evaluated. Paid ads, SEO, and outbound are intermittently attempted and discontinued, because there is no reference point against which to measure their performance. Founders conclude that “marketing doesn’t work for us.”

Resolution requires a positioning decision — what the product is, who it is for, what it replaces — followed by a channel plan and team structure built on top of it. This sequence is not optional. Channels do not compensate for unresolved positioning.

01 — Excluded segments

Positioning decisions require excluding customer segments. Founders delay these decisions because each excluded segment represents visible near-term revenue.

02 — Channel execution

Agencies are typically retained to execute channels, not to resolve strategy. Channel execution without resolved positioning produces activity without pipeline.

03 — Referral saturation

Revenue from referrals masks the issue. The company remains profitable, so the absence of a demand engine is not treated as urgent until referral growth saturates.
